Ms. Lucia Cartini is a Senior Industrial Development Officer in the UNIDO Investment Promotion Division, Department of Trade, Technology and Innovation of UNIDO -United Nations Industrial Development Organization).
Ms. Lucia Cartini also serves as the Coordinator for the UNIDO Network of Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPOs). This specialized Network includes offices in nine locations in emerging and industrialized countries: Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain; Bonn, Germany; Rome, Italy; Tokyo, Japan; Lagos, Nigeria; Beijing and Shanghai, the People’s Republic of China; Seoul, the Republic of Korea; and Moscow, the Russian Federation. Through this Network, UNIDO provides a wide range of services to both enterprises and public/private institutions to promote investments and technology transfer in developing countries, to create job opportunities in the productive sector.
Ms. Cartini has served UNIDO for the last 21 years under various responsibilities. In 1994, she joined UNIDO as a Junior Professional Officer in Egypt and continued to serve in the country as an Investment Promotion Officer until 1999 in a joint project between UNIDO and the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). After this field experience, she worked for several years as a Field Operation Officer in the UNIDO Arab Regional Bureau where she was in charge of the Technical Cooperation Programmes for several Arab countries. Subsequently, she was assigned to the Investment and Technology Promotion Division of UNIDO, to carry out both technical and managerial duties.
From September 2006 to February 2011, Ms. Cartini returned to the field and was appointed Deputy to the Director of the UNIDO Regional Office in Egypt, where she worked to mobilize resources and partners to expand UNIDO’s Technical Cooperation Programme and as a key member of the UN Country team in Egypt.
In February 2011, Ms. Cartini was appointed as the Coordinator for the UNIDO Network of ITPOs worldwide, where she still serves today.
Ms. Cartini is a national of Italy and holds a Master’s Degree from the University Orientale of Naples (Italy) in Economy and Development in the Arab Region. She also holds a Post-Graduate Executive Specialization in International Cooperation for Development.
