Simon Bell is an international investor and consultant. He has spent more than 25 years advising many of the world’s leading companies, as well as governments and industry associations, on strategies to accelerate investment and growth in key emerging markets.
Simon is the founder of Armillary Ventures, a boutique investment fund focused on launching community-based tourism and agribusiness ventures in promising frontier markets – the firm is currently developing projects in Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Nicaragua. Amba Estate, the company’s first operational venture, is now exporting high-value organic products to global markets and offering guests a unique agro-tourism experience in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. He is a Fellow of A.T. Kearney’s Global Business Policy Council, a Director of ECCSL (the European Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka), a Board member of SAGCOT (the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania), and Strategic Adviser to SLASSCOM (the association of Sri Lanka’s knowledge services companies),.
Previously, he was a Director of A.T. Kearney, a leading global management-consulting firm. He helped to establish A.T. Kearney’s offices in Russia, India and South Africa in the 1990s, and then, as Director of the Global Business Policy Council, he advised many of the world’s leading firms on their overall global investment strategy. He also contributed to development of many seminal publications, including the FDI Confidence Index, the Globalization Index and the Global Services Location Index, and authored numerous articles and white-papers – on globalization, regional competitiveness and the triple bottom-line. Over the years, Mr. Bell’s clients have included leading firms in every sector of the global economy, ranging from agribusiness and mining, to high tech, automotive and consumer goods, to financial services and retail. His work for governments has included national strategies for the governments of Korea, Malaysia, and Puerto Rico, regional strategies for the mayors of Shanghai, Sao Paulo and Chicago, and sector-specific promotion strategies for agencies in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cote d’Ivoire, Dubai, Egypt, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Malaysia, Mexico, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia.
